5 Things We Love About Hong Kong’s Newest, Fab-est Wellness Centre

Island Shangri-La has debuted a gorgeous, glimmering yet biophilia-forward new spa and health center called Yun Wellness, and T+L got a first look. How much do we love this soothing space inspired by nature? Let us count the ways.

Strength Not Size

IN A 24/7 CITY like Hong Kong, opulent hotel spas are not just a luxury—they’re a necessity. But to stand out in the city, these havens of wellbeing need to offer more than indulgent massages and facials. Enter Yun Wellness, the new wellbeing offering at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong.

Inspired by a fourth-century Chinese poem that extols the virtues of nature, Yun Wellness harnesses the soothing properties of flora and fauna to offer therapies and experiences that suit every need—and stage of life.

“People’s goals change over time and what works for us today may not work for us tomorrow,” says the director of wellness, Dr. Tal Friedman. “This new wellness space offers a diverse range of services and treatments, and we hope to help our guests understand their goals, find the right motivations, and harness the power of our experts to figure out how and when to find what they need for better health.”

1. Biophilic Design

Spanish interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán drew inspiration from Hong Kong’s verdant green landscapes to bring this lush urban oasis to life. Guests begin their immersion in the lift lobby, amidst a jungle-like installation that immediately imparts a sense of calm. Throughout the space, bamboo moldings and lattices, floral accents, and a palette of nature-inspired hues of greens, creams, ochre, and rose—along with clever use of textures—all come together to mimic the feeling of being in nature while creating a luxurious, relaxing environment.

2. Ancient- and Futuristic-Science Treatments

When it comes to indulgent rituals—delivered here in 10 tranquil treatment rooms—you’re spoilt for choice at Yun Wellness. From regenerative body treatments to anti-aging facials specifically designed for male skin, these are all curated treatments that deliver serious benefits. The spa has teamed up with Switzerland’s Dr. Burgener—who specializes in bespoke skincare—to bring his line of high-performance facials to Asia for the first time—hello hydration and goodbye fine lines and pigmentation! In need of some serious R’n’R? The signature 90-minute Chakra Balancing Massage combines seven oils with firm pressure to rebalance the body’s energy flow—you’ll leave in a daze.

3. Fab Facilities Your House Will Envy

Beyond treatments, guests will find sleek added extras designed to entice them into whiling away a full day here—and come back for more. Ride out the post-treatment zen by grabbing a plush lounger on the Miami-chic pool deck, which is shaded by green-and-white umbrellas and towering tropical foliage. Or, work up a sweat at the state-of-the-art gym, in a convivial movement class, or a personal training session, then primp for a night out at the spa’s swish little hair salon. Shout out to the opulent changing rooms, which feature far-infrared saunas—a first for a Hong Kong hotel spa—and chic make-up stations with Hollywood-style mirrors, John Masters Organics products, and Dyson hairdryers.

4. Holistic Health
