These Are the Coolest New Wellness Concepts in Asia

5 luxury brands with new resorts or programs offering healing in the plushest of places—these are the coolest new wellness concepts of 2021.

POST-PANDEMIC, the wellness travel movement is significantly stepping up a gear.

Beloved Asia-based five-stars Como and Six Senses were conceived years ago with holistic wellness in their DNA. The rest of the hospitality world is catching up and rolling out red carpets to all-encompassing health and wellbeing programs that weave wellness into each moment and keep emotional and mental health in check.

The hotels listed here guarantee to dig much deeper than a healthy-eating-spa-session-sunrise-yoga stay. To mark Global Wellness Day, why not book a visit soon? We’re sure you’ll checkout de-stressed and ready to take on the world.

Holding the title of Thailand’s first integrated wellness and medical retreat, this collaboration between Minor Hotels (owners of Anantara and Avani, among other brands) and Bumrungrad Hospital delivers tailored wellness programs designed by licensed medical doctors. Based in a little-known forested area in the heart of Bangkok, the resort’s offerings combine medical treatments with holistic therapies. A series of personalized programs run from three to 14 days and focus on health goals that range from immunity-boosting and de-stress solutions to gut health.

The VitalLife Scientific Wellness Clinic offers a swathe of health-related checks and practices, including DNA tests, inflammation analysis, light therapy and an infrared sauna. Holistic treatments come in the form of Traditional Thai Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic treatments and energy healing. Bespoke menus, an Olympic-standard medical gym and a hydrothermal spa complete the experience.

Janu

Wanting to create a concept that kick-starts the human interaction and social connections that are often lost in today’s digital world and fast-paced society, luxury brand Aman is gearing up to launch sister brand Janu next year. The word for “soul” in Sanskrit, Janu aims to promote purpose and inner connectedness.

The resorts include dynamic, multi-use social spaces and an innovative menu driven by culinary concepts such as fermentation and low-pressure cooking. On the wellness front, guests can join high-energy group classes and mindfulness sessions, or unwind in the wellness and spa facilities. Additionally, each property will be designed to sooth the soul. Three resorts are slated to open from next year in Montenegro, Saudi Arabia and Tokyo.

To ensure it takes care of guests inside and out, the Thai hospitality brand Dusit introduced Devarana Wellness across its global portfolio this May. Inspired by traditional Thai healing wisdom, the concept encourages visitors to slow down, prioritize health and nurture their wellbeing. The range of holistic experiences are based on an approach they’re calling ‘Pause, Focus and Growth.’

Pause takes in yoga, meditation, breath-work, Thai herbal medicine and activities that promote emotional resilience. Focus includes tailor-made menus and fitness, while Growth includes sustainability workshops, community programs and special retreats. Guests can also zone out to videos of meditative sleep rituals in their room.

Check-in at Raffles and get wellness delivered straight to your room by the brand’s new army of wellbeing butlers. They are on hand to introduce you to the resort’s healthy-life options and help curate a unique journey for each guest. This forms part of the Emotional Wellbeing by Raffles program, which is based on three core pillars: harmonious design, nutrition for pleasure and serenity rituals.

Expect deliciously healthy meals, a bath-enhancement menu, sweet bedside notes that encourage mindfulness, luxury eye pillows and seamless designs that ooze serenity. And, of course, that new fleet of butlers are on hand to answer any wellness-related questions (or fetch you that acai bowl you’re craving).

Banyan Tree

[gallery ids="17285,17286"]

Already a brand with wellness in its soul and spas that don’t quit, Banyan Tree is redefining its guest experience. In March, it started rolling out Wellbeing Sanctuaries, which will eventually land in each of its properties worldwide. The sanctuaries fuse together club floors or resort wings with dedicated dining and spa options into a holistic experience exclusive to each destination.

Banyan Tree’s wellness team has been carrying out heaps of research to curate eight vacation-ready pillars, including good sleep and diet, physical vitality, cultivating the mind and harmony with nature. The brand-new Banyan Tree Krabi— whose private aquatherapy circuit is a salve for the soul — and Banyan Tree Samui in Thailand, as well as Banyan Tree Lang Co in Vietnam currently house Wellness Sanctuaries, but look for one soon at a resort near you.
